Abandoned
Spinning wheel, spinning time
clocks abandoned with a chime
cabinets with rustic flair
window panes let in the air.
Household plants have overgrown
thrived on sunlight on their own
watered by a leaky roof
house no longer weatherproofed.
Leaves have gathered on the floor
no one lives here anymore
house abandoned long ago
yet secret treehouse still aglow.
When night peaked in with its gloom
oil lamps seen, lit the room
favorite books passed time away
kept the demons all at bay.
Rumpelstiltskin comes to mind
for here is spun a home so fine
that did not wait for others claim
abandonment is such a shame.
